_ Joël Lavoie is born in Montreal (1987), he rapidly found himself a passion for music composition and technology. After a few years of work as a sound engineer in various halls and theatres, he went to Université de Montréal where he had a degree in electroacoustic music composition. Besides composition and sound design, he purses his career as sound engineer for theater, music and dance, amongst the few : Marie Chouinard, Lalala Human steps, various bands and festivals.
Very sensitive to his environnement, his music allies the soundscapes that surrounds him to the unreasonableness of electronic and instrumental parasites. All of this made with the same intensity of a toothache or a promenade in a gondola. He grabs the organicity and spontaneous nature of natural sounds and match them to discordant and sometimes cold nature of artificial electronic sounds. The inspiration comes from numerous moments listening to his surroundings and being seduced by them. He captures them and gives them a new transformative life, otherworldly.
Joël has composed and performed for various projects in dance, video, theatre and poetry. His collaborators include: Nadère, La 2ieme porte à gauche, Audrey Rochette, Émile Pineault, Mykalle Bielinsky, Claudel Doucet, Ida Toninato and Sébastien b. Gagnon. He has had the opportunity to perform at Usine C (Montréal), Akousma festival (Montréal), Ibrida*pluri festival (Montréal), Fylkingen (Sweden), Tangente (Montréal), Culture Rapide (Paris), Festival de Poésie de Trois-Rivières, OFFTA (Montréal), l’Agora de la Danse (Montréal), Palìndromo (Guadalajara), Théâtre La Chapelle (Montréal), Blockhaus (Nantes) amongst other contemporary venues.
